Can you tell us about your book(s)?
Of course! My first YA series is HURRICANE, published by Divertir Publishing and that is a paranormal romance/urban fantasy set in New Orleans around Hurricane Katrina. A portion of the sales go to Habitat- NOLA which is great. My forthcoming book, BLUE TIDE is coming Winter 2017, and was pitched as Waterworld meets Pirates of the Caribbean. It’s a YA adventure packed romance steeped in Middle Eastern culture and set amongst dangerous oceans and tropical Asian-Pacific Islands.
Do you have any upcoming releases your fans should know about?
Yes! BLUE TIDE is my baby. It’s been something I’ve been working on for a while. It’s the book I got into Pitch to Publication with. It’s the book I won the RWA’s Romancing the Lake contest with. It is the book that I snagged an agent with. And it’s the book I signed an awesome book deal with! I am really excited because I definitely think there will be a pirate trend in YA and I am so ready for that. I have been wanting more YA pirate books for a while! It also has diverse characters (bi-racial, Middle Eastern, and Asian-Pacific Islander) which I love. We need more Arab protagonists and I am glad I could provide.
When you write do you need background noise or silence?
I have to write in silence but music can get me in the mood to write. I have playlists for each of my books and listening to certain songs will snap me into the right mind frame.
What books are at the top of your TBR list?
Too many books! But a few I am about to start reading are Rebel of the Sands and Nora and Kettle.
Who are your favorite authors?
A lot of my favorite authors are dead; Hemingway, the Bronte sisters. As far as authors that are alive, there is a ton of great talent and a ton authors I am really excited about. I love Lila Felix, she is from the South and her books are really authentic that way. There are also some great up-and-coming authors writing diverse fiction and I am keeping my eye on them!
What piece of advice would you give to unpublished authors?
DO NOT GIVE UP. That is the only thing standing in the way of you and success.
